Nowadays, these provide safe avenues for students to start classes or pick up where they left off. Those who have been itching to go back to learning tango may effectively do so with the best online Argentine tango schools.

2 years of COVID made us realize that Tango CAN be learned online. But also - that we now have the means to connect with any Tango professional around the world.

Tango Movement is run by David and Kim Benitez, a tango teaching team in the UK since 2007. They have in-person classes in their UK studio but also offer online courses that cater to tango students of every skill level. Tango Movement was created with the intention to help tango students grow and forge lasting friendships.

Classes Offered

Online classes offered by Tango Movement are all hosted via Zoom. These include the following:

Followers Technique

This class is offered weekly to those who wish to explore effective techniques for followers, as well as those who want to learn more about having freedom of movement and expression. Each class begins with a warm-up then moves on to exercises involving balance and posture. For best results, students are recommended to wear tango shoes and prepare an object or space that can be used for balance exercises, such as a chair or a kitchen counter.

At the end of the class, students will have access to the recording so they can review the exercises at their leisure. No partners are required for attendees.

Followers Technique sessions are held on Mondays, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Improver Class

The Improver Class is offered to couples who want to strengthen their communication and partnership in tango dancing. Similar to the Followers Technique classes, the Improver Class begins with warm-up exercises before moving onto couples work. Each week, different movements will be explored with a clear, structured approach.

Students will also have access to the recording at the end of each class for review purposes.

Improver classes are held on Mondays and Fridays, from 8:35 pm to 9:35 pm.

Beginners Class

The Beginners Class is offered to couples only and is geared towards teaching the first steps and principles of tango. Attendees don’t need a huge space but are recommended to work on a wooden or tiled floor if possible.

Recordings at the end of each session are also accessible to students who have attended this class.

The Beginners Class is held on Tuesdays, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Basic Technique

This class is for beginner tango dancers who have no partners but want to learn more about tango. The focus of these weekly sessions involves enhancing body awareness, coordination, and balance, which can prepare students for actual partner work.

Basic Technique classes are held on Fridays, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Ballet 4 Tango

Those who are interested in learning tango using ballet as a foundational technique can take this class. As an ex-pro ballet dancer, David will be the one to hold the Ballet 4 Tango classes, which will last for 40 minutes each session. Classes are intended to strengthen and lengthen the muscles used for tango, which are also the same ones used in ballet. Lessons also aim to give the students a heightened sense of body awareness and control. Classes will begin with a classical barre format and will end with a tango-inspired modern dance routine.

No partners are needed to attend this class, and ballet shoes are not required as socks will do just as well. Ballet barres are also unnecessary and can be replaced by chairs, kitchen counters, or other similar objects or spaces.

Ballet 4 Tango classes are held on Saturdays, from 11 am to 11:40 am.

Unisex Technique

This weekly class features a different theme in each session wherein body awareness, coordination, balance, and posture will be the focus. Creative and more expressive ways of dancing will also be tackled.

Students who want to attend the Unisex Technique classes are not required to have a partner and will receive a recording at the end of the class.

Unisex Technique classes are held on Saturdays, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Intermediate Class

This couples-only class focuses on improving partner work, with different movements taught each week. Students who have joined this class will also receive a recording of the session for review purposes.

Intermediate classes for couples are held on Saturdays, from 3 pm to 4 pm.

Ultimate Tango puts a premium on the “Tango way,” where the universe of the couple is developed through having a deep understanding and partnership between both the leader and the follower.

In the world of human experience, we operate based on five senses – sight, sound, taste, smell, touch. Virtual Lessons fulfill only the first two. For dancers, touch is the crucially important one. However, we had discovered that online learning, focused predominantly on logic, structure, and demonstration renders great improvement. So do not resign from online learning.
— Anita Flejter & Hernan Brizuela

Ultimate Tango teaches students the value of communication and continuous feedback, which is what ultimately makes a tango couple shine on the dance floor.

Classes Offered

Virtual classes offered by Ultimate Tango are on-demand and can be accessed at any time from the computer iPad/tabet or phone. These online classes include the following:

Virtual Private Lessons

Virtual private lessons are held at the student’s convenience. Classes focus on giving personalized feedback and demonstrations of steps from different angles. After every lesson, the student will get a recording of the session, which they can review.

Virtual Beginner Course (on-demand)

This on-demand virtual beginner course provides an introduction to Argentine tango in a clear, well-structured, and progressive manner. Since Tango's difficulty lies in learning actual leadership, communication, and partnership building, the Beginner course is divided into 28 mini-lessons designed as tiny, small bites of 10 to 25 minutes. This way it is easier for a student to comprehend and practice what he or she is learning.

Virtual Short Sequences (on-demand)

Sometimes we don’t even know what we don’t know and we need to be shown what can be done with the elements we had already learn in the class and how they can be combined into beautiful, nicely flowing sequences. In this class elements from any level can be added to the combination as long as the sequence is short enough to be danced within one or two phrases. It is a good way to familiarize yourself with aspects of tango that are yet unknown to you. To start – mimic what you see. These classes focus on specific topics or dance steps, which can be reviewed at the end of each session through a Quick Review video.

Virtual Classy Heels (on-demand)

Classy Heels is a solo tango technique & choreography-based workout helping you to learn more about how to look great in heels on the dance floor or... anywhere you go. If you committed learner - this is your best choice - a new workout every week! It's never too early or too late to start. Yes, you will be struggling, still - start and keep going!

Meant exclusively for Followers - and focused on Follower’s Technique - all discussions are centered around how movements can be modified to achieve a particular effect a tanguera may be looking for on the dance floor. The virtual Classy Heels course can be taken by students at their own convenience.
