Location: Ultimate Tango School of Dance, 5 High Street, Medford, MA 02155
What is Taller de Tango? The word ‘taller’ in literal translated simply means ‘workshop’. In English workshop – class – lesson can mean exactly the same thing. In Spanish though the word taller refers more to the place were things are being fixed, created, invented, simply worked on. An auto body shop that does everything would be called taller de auto. So to understand what we really be doing in Taller de Tango the word taller shall be translating as ‘brainstorming’.
In Taller de Tango we will be focusing on… whatever happens to be on Hernan’s head that day. Could be a specific alteration, or maybe variations of the giro, different ways of executing boleo, super detailed body rotation, dancing to the lyrics or maybe melody or maybe rhythm of one particular song that keeps playing in his head. Analyzing the cadencia of one combination over tango, Milonga and Vals, syncopation or double time – what to use better and when, discussing side step, specifying what ‘axis’ means… In other words in Taller de Tango we can be working on anything and in no specific order. If you have a doubt, or you hear different explanations about something from different teachers and you curious why – just bring it on – we will brainstorm over it.
Taller de Tango is meant for students advanced enough that they are already going to and actively dancing in Milongas and practicas. In other words it is an open level class – anything can happen here so if you are looking for structured and progressive classes you shall be checking Sunday classes that are precisely planned and divided by levels.
