Wrap is a very interesting Tango element as it can be added and danced in almost any situation – both stage and social, in crowded and very open spaces and they always look good.
It’s probably one of the first elements that you will experience that the lead and the effect of the lead is not immediate. In fact the wrap becomes most visible when we are actually unwrapping and the lead is already in the phase of existing out of a figure, not entering into it. Curiouser and curiouser as Alice in Wonderland would say….
I’ve just spent like million hours trying to find a good picture showing the sensation of the wrap and cannot find any. Look at this picture – it has a sensuality of a wrap, but technically is not really a wrap.
In a wrap the leg of -usually- follower softly wraps around the leg of the leader. The most obvious one and the one we will start with is the one executed from back ocho / low boleo sensation. Then we proceed into more wrapping/unwrapping possibilities.

Wrap is a very pleasant step as it doesn’t required neither visual nor actual impulse. Happens by use of torsions, correct feet placement and timely weight transfer. All this ‘nothing’ to generate amazingly sensual experience to emphasize music and mood of the dance.
We will be mastering wraps during 8 weeks of Sunday Pre-Advanced classes starting 09/10 at 12:30pm.
Pre-Advanced Tango Course is our most popular tango course meant for those who are ready to really dig into the technique and structure all Argentine Tango elements one by one, open to understand the mechanics of the movement and structure of the dance, practice the ability to read the direction, recreate beautiful lead every time and focus on musicality.
If you already going out to the Milongas but feel you vocabulary need some enrichment, that you are missing some information about technique, mechanics, and connection that makes it difficult for you to move forward to the next level of dancing – this is the course for you.
You can join any series at its beginning. If you miss the first 4 weeks please have a courtesy of taking private lesson or two to catch up with the rest of the group.
